The national heart center performs 8,368 heart surgeries since its inception

MUSCAT: The National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery has made remarkable achievements since its inception in 2015 performing 4,274 pediatric heart surgeries and 4,094 heart surgeries for adults.


In addition, the Centre handled 154 cases using the extracorporeal oxygenation device (ECMO) and 30,676 cardiac catheterization procedures for arteries. The Centre also performed 4,310 catheterization interventions for children and 395 for adults and implanted 2,206 heart devices.


Academically, the National Centre won first place in terms of the number of researchers at the Royal Hospital. The Centre has also made international achievements including its success in closing a difficult hole in the heart in 2018 and receiving the gold award from the World Hospital Federation (IHF).



The Centre launched the ‘Heart of the Nation’ marking the 10th anniversary of its foundation in conjunction with the World Heart Day celebrations to increase community awareness about the Centre’s role in healthcare for heart patients.


The National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery has specialized clinics including 3D cardiac imaging, virtual clinics, heart failure clinics in addition to dedicated clinics for pregnant women and children with heart disease.
