Muscat, Sept 30

The Embassy of Brazil, in collaboration with Bait Al Zubair Foundation, has launched the Brazilian Cultural Week, which commenced on Sunday evening and will run until October 3 at Bait Al Zubair.

The event marks the celebration of 50 years of strong diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Brazil.

Alfredo Cesar Martinho, Ambassador of Brazil in Oman, highlighted the deep ties between the two nations, noting that the event aims to offer the Omani public a unique window into Brazilian culture.

Dr Mona Habras, Director General of Bait Al Zubair Foundation, emphasised that half a century of bilateral relations has fostered cultural commonalities between the two countries. She added that the week’s activities will showcase the rich intellectual, artistic, and heritage diversity shared by Oman and Brazil.

The programme includes a variety of cultural displays, ranging from musical performances and art exhibitions to cinema, literature, folk arts, and traditional cuisine.

The opening event featured a classical music concert by pianist Erica Ribeiro and cellist Janina Salles, who performed renowned compositions. The art exhibition includes original Brazilian jewellery worn by women of African descent in the mid-19th century, alongside enlarged photographs and paintings depicting this cultural heritage.

Throughout the week, attendees can look forward to a discussion with Brazilian author Fernando Bonassi, who will engage in dialogue with Omani writer and translator Thabet Khamis about Brazilian literature.

The week will also feature a screening of the Brazilian film The Clown, and a Capoeira workshop on Thursday evening to round off the cultural festivities.
