The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) is all set to kick off the West Asian Junior Badminton Championship on October 7. The six-day event will feature participation from nine countries representing West Asian nations, including Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Lebanon and hosts, the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Abdulrahim al Droushi, Chairman of ORSC, recently chaired the main committee meeting to review the readiness of all sub-committees and outlined plans to ensure the success of the championship. Key organisational aspects were discussed, including media coverage, television broadcasting, marketing, sponsorships and logistical preparations such as accommodation and transportation for the teams, besides some other items.

Oman’s junior badminton team began their training session on Monday, which will continue until the start of the tournament. Oman’s junior stars will aim to register outstanding results in this Asian event and raise the country’s flag high in the championship.

Amal al Mahrouqi, head of the volunteer committee, said that 40 volunteers will assist in various aspects of the event, including welcoming the teams and supporting the opening and closing ceremonies. “We are pleased with our partnership with the Physical Education and Sports Science department at Sultan Qaboos University to bring in students to gain valuable experience in sporting event organisation,” she added.

Mohammed al Subhi, head of the venue readiness committee, affirmed that all necessary preparations are underway to meet international standards. “The competition venues will be ready on Thursday, with training courts and other relevant facilities. The tournament’s pre-event workshop will see the participation of 24 referees, and all logistical and medical arrangements have been completed,” he concluded.
