MUSCAT: The Omani-Tanzanian Business Forum, organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), was held in Muscat with a focus on strengthening trade and economic partnerships between the private sectors of Oman and Tanzania. The forum aimed to explore collaborative opportunities in several key sectors, including construction, real estate, food security, mining, energy, transportation, and logistics.

Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, delivered the opening address, emphasising that the forum serves as a platform to enhance the long-standing historical relations between Oman and Tanzania. He highlighted the positive developments in economic ties between the two nations, noting that the number of Tanzanian companies registered in Oman has increased by 23.8% over the past two years, alongside a 13.5% rise in investment during the same period. These figures underscore the growing mutual interest in expanding trade and investment collaboration.

Omar Saeed Shaban, Minister of Commerce and Industrial Development in Zanzibar, also addressed the forum, stressing the essential role the private sector plays in driving economic growth. He encouraged both sides to capitalise on available investment opportunities and work towards strengthening economic and trade cooperation.

The Chairman of the OCCI, Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, echoed these sentiments, adding that the forum provided a valuable opportunity for business leaders to explore the investment climate, incentives, and opportunities in both countries. He stressed that the growing trade exchange between Oman and Tanzania encourages further efforts to deepen bilateral partnerships.

A key highlight of the forum was the signing of seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Omani and Tanzanian companies. These agreements span various sectors, including construction, real estate, agriculture, information and communications technology (ICT), renewable energy, investment, and consulting services.

The event also featured presentations on investment incentives, as well as bilateral meetings between Omani and Tanzanian business owners to discuss potential partnerships and ventures. An accompanying exhibition showcased Tanzanian companies from various sectors, offering insights into the investment opportunities available in the East African nation.
