NEW YORK: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, met with Hussein Awad Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan, during his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The foreign minister affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s firm position calling for unity in Sudan without foreign interference to achieve peace and stability and ensure the supreme interests of the brotherly Sudanese people.
The two ministers stressed the importance of enhancing the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue to achieve security and stability and a return of Sudan to the path of economic and social development in all its regions.
The minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of the Sudan expressed his deep appreciation for the role of the Sultanate of Oman in supporting the stability of Sudan, praising the close relations between the two brotherly countries.
The foreign minister also met with Dr Mohammed Mustafa, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Palestine, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting discussed developments in the Palestinian cause, the strong and growing global momentum in its favour and the need to build on this momentum at the Arab and international levels to achieve justice by ensuring the Palestinian people attain all their legitimate rights and establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Dr Mohammed expressed his deep appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause in various international forums, commending the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The meeting also addressed ways to enhance coordination between the two countries in intensifying the necessary support in order to strengthen Palestinian resilience, build consensus and reconciliation among all Palestinian parties, and empower the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas.
Sayyid Badr also met with Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the friendly Republic of Slovenia. He praised her country’s honourable position in support of the just Palestinian cause, especially its recognition of the Palestinian state.
The two ministers reviewed bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Slovenia and ways to enhance them in various fields including economic, trade and tourism cooperation.
The two sides stressed the importance of regular political consultations between the two countries and coordinating positions in international forums on issues of common interest and their aspiration to continue communication and exchange of official visits between the two countries to foster cooperation and partnership relations in various fields.
Sayyid Badr also met with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs. They exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues, stressing the importance of enhancing Arab cooperation and solidarity to confront common challenges and continuing coordination between the two countries in international forums.
The two ministers stressed the deep historic bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Tunisia and ways to enhance them in the economic, cultural and educational fields.
The foreign minister met with Bassam Sabbagh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Sayyid Badr expressed his sincere congratulations to the Syrian minister on his recent appointment wishing him success in his duties.
The ministers affirmed the deep ties between the two brotherly countries and their commitment to strengthening the existing positive cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and Syria in various fields.
The meeting also included discussions on issues of common interest with an emphasis on the need to intensify joint efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
Sayyid Badr reiterated the Sultanate of Oman’s support for all efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in Syria through dialogue and diplomatic solutions. — ONA
