SUHAR: A comprehensive workshop focused on the digital economy and its critical initiatives was recently held in North Al Batinah, aiming to raise awareness of Oman’s digital transformation programmes. The event sought to educate participants on national efforts to foster digital initiatives and their potential to drive the nation’s development.


Organised by the Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, the workshop was attended by Mohammed Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah. It attracted a diverse audience, including members of the public, entrepreneurs, and experts in the digital economy. The large turnout reflects the growing awareness and interest in the digital economy and investment culture in Oman.


The workshop highlighted key pillars of Oman’s National Digital Economy Programme, focusing on government digital transformation, e-commerce, financial technologies (FinTech), and enhancing digital infrastructure. These elements form the core of Oman’s strategy to build a future-ready economy, promoting innovation and boosting global competitiveness.


Several key organisations participated in the event, including the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and the Central Bank of Oman.

A major topic of discussion was the National E-Commerce Strategy, which seeks to build trust between consumers and entrepreneurs while fostering a modern, reliable business environment. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry emphasised the need for a robust framework to support e-commerce growth. The CBO also highlighted its role in driving financial sector innovation by supporting emerging financial technologies, reinforcing the significance of FinTech in advancing Oman’s digital economy.


The TRA's presentation centred on enhancing Oman’s digital infrastructure, particularly through the expansion of fiber optic networks and the deployment of 4G and 5G technologies. These efforts are expected to not only improve national connectivity but also bolster Oman’s global standing in the digital landscape.


Workshops like this play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and dialogue between government entities and stakeholders, reinforcing the shared goal of promoting digital transformation in North Al Batinah. The exchange of ideas and best practices during the event underscores Oman’s ongoing commitment to building a thriving digital economy.
