Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al Maamourah Palace in Salalah on Thursday and reviewed several topics, including the improved financial performance in the Sultanate of Oman and expressed his satisfaction about the decline in the volume of public debt and the ensuing positive outcomes that contribute to the consolidation of confidence in the local economy and the establishment of an attractive environment that helps activate various economic sectors.
Following up on reports about a rise in the number of visitors to Dhofar, over one million until the end of August 2024), His Majesty the Sultan lauded the efforts made by the departments tasked with implementing development projects, organizing activities and programs tailored to attract tourists to Dhofar Governorate -- which helped make the 2024 Khareef season a success.
His Majesty the Sultan underscored the significance of studying tourist aspirations and developing the services rendered to them in a manner that sustains their numbers over the upcoming seasons.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism recently reported that over 1 million visitors traveled to the Dhofar Governorate this year (1,006,635) since the start of the Khareef season in June and until August 31, 2024, an increase of 8.7 percent from 924,127 visitors who visited in 2023 during the same period.
Of these 753, 105 visitors were Omanis, 176,162 GCC nationals, and 121,767 other nationalities.
The number of visitors coming by flight increased 5.2 percent from 209,528 in 2023 to 220,528 while 776,107 passengers came by road.
