SEOUL: The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) marked its 10th Anniversary World Peace Summit, with celebrations extending across 122 countries, including South Korea, on September 18.

Under the theme ‘Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration,’ this significant event reflects on a decade of global dedication to peace and charts a course for future efforts to enhance worldwide harmony. The anniversary serves as a platform to review HWPL’s accomplishments since its inception in 2014 and to strategise future initiatives.

Various sessions were held worldwide, gathering regional talents and establishing networks crucial for tailored peace strategies. These efforts focus on strengthening local peace initiatives, addressing regional conflicts, and harnessing collective capacities.

Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL emphasised the importance of religious dialogue and understanding in mitigating conflicts. “We must work together to create a world of peace and leave it as a legacy for future generations. This is to fulfill our mission as a light that brings life to the global village and only through love and peace can the world become one,” he said.

In line with the summit's focus on regional cooperation, HWPL has partnered with the intergovernmental organisation Group of 7+ (G7+) and The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino). G7+ aims to promote peace and development among conflict-affected countries and includes 20 member states. Parlatino, with 23 member states, focuses on fostering democratic development and integration.

A notable peace project presented by Dr Jose Honorio da Costa Pereira Jeronimo, Timor-Leste’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, involved introducing peace education through a partnership with HWPL. Dr Jeronimo highlighted the importance of peace education in shaping future global citizens and laying the foundation for societal stability.

Prof Dr Emil Constantinescu, the 3rd President of Romania and President of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilisation, reflected on the 2014 HWPL summit and its advocacy for international peacebuilding. He remarked on the shared commitment to global peace, emphasising unity beyond perceived differences.

In South Korea, the “Together: Connecting Korea” campaign, launched as part of the summit, promotes national social harmony. This initiative, in collaboration with 230 civil society organizations, aims to bridge generations, diverse cultures, and support environmental protection efforts.

The summit underscores HWPL’s dedication to global peace and highlights the collaborative efforts necessary to address both local and international challenges.

Based in Seoul, HWPL is an international NGO affiliated with UNECOSOC.

Over the past decade, HWPL has grown to include 500,000 members across 170 countries and collaborates with 1,014 organisations in 105 nations through Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
