MUSCAT: Automotive fuel production in Oman surged by 25 per cent in July 2024 compared to June, despite a 2.4 per cent drop in total refinery and petroleum industry output by the end of July compared to the same period in 2023, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Production of regular motor fuel (M-91) fell by 9.6 per cent, with output reaching 8.685 million barrels and sales totaling 8.045 million barrels. In contrast, premium motor fuel (M-95) production rose by 8.3 per cent to 7.803 million barrels, with sales of 7.595 million barrels.
Diesel production saw a 5.2 per cent drop, recording 18.831 million barrels, while sales amounted to 8.59 million barrels. Jet fuel production declined by 1 per cent to 6.79 million barrels, with sales of 2.36 million barrels. LPG production totaled 5.17 million barrels, with sales of 5.82 million barrels.
In petrochemicals, gasoline production increased by 6.8 per cent to 99,900 metric tonnes, while paraxylene output climbed 6.6 per cent to 325,600 metric tonnes. Polypropylene production, however, fell by 21.8 per cent to 122,700 metric tonnes, though sales surged by 30.9 per cent to 19,800 metric tonnes.
Oman's fuel exports also saw significant changes. Automotive fuel (91) exports grew by 16 per cent to 1.415 million barrels, while premium fuel (95) exports soared by 119.8 per cent to 912,700 barrels. Diesel exports hit 10.5 million barrels, and jet fuel exports reached 4.4 million barrels. LPG exports totaled 290,800 barrels.
In petrochemicals, paraxylene exports reached 311,000 metric tonnes, gasoline exports stood at 97,700 metric tonnes, and polypropylene exports totaled 93,700 metric tonnes. — ONA
