Ayn Al Kasfah, located in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq, is considered a tourist attraction that draws visitors from around the world. Natural waters reach temperatures of over 45 degrees Celsius, with hot water flowing out in several streams to irrigate surrounding orchards.
In addition to its agricultural significance, the water from this spring is renowned for its natural treatment of rheumatism and various skin diseases due to the sulphurous substance it contains.
The Sultanate of Oman's government, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), has shown interest in developing this unique tourist site. Bathing and recreational facilities have been constructed next to the sulphur spring, and the ancient tower a few metres away is currently undergoing restoration.
The development project for Ain Al Kasfah includes bus stops, new toilets, restaurants, cafes and shops, making it a vital project aimed at enhancing tourism and commercial investments, as well as fostering community partnerships and developing the Oman's natural resources.
The treatment of certain skin diseases involves gradually using the sulphur spring water so that the body can acclimate to the hot sulphur water's temperature. Individuals are advised to spend 5-10 minutes in the water until the desired effects are achieved, preferably bathing in the sulphur water in the early morning or evening.
About 40 km from Ayn Al Kasfah, another site containing sulphurous water can be found. 'Al Khandiq' in the village of Al Houqain features sulphurous water flowing between a four-metre-high rock fault. The water temperature at this site is moderate, allowing visitors to swim and relax for extended periods. Signs providing guidance and awareness have been placed near the site to prevent any risks for tourists, especially after heavy rains.
This site attracts hundreds of visitors, particularly during official holidays, as it is equipped for recreation, camping, and various water sports such as diving and swimming.
The tourist sites in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq are not limited to sulphurous waters, but also include castles, forts, and ancient tombs dating back thousands of years. Among the most significant historical landmarks are Al Rustaq Fort, Al Hazm Castle, and Falaj Al Maysar, which has been included in the World Heritage List.
