The Azerbaijani Scholars Living Abroad Forum recently convened distinguished Azerbaijani academics and scholars from leading universities worldwide. Organised by the State Committee for Work with the Azerbaijani Diaspora under the leadership of Chairman Fuad Muradov, the forum served as a platform for discussing advancements in education and cultural initiatives.

Dr Saida Khalilova, an Associate Professor with a PhD in Music and Pedagogy, represented the Sultanate of Oman at the forum.

She was one of only three scholars from the Middle East and the sole representative from the Sultanate of Oman. Joining her were Rıza Moridi and İlham Axundov from Canada, and Bəxtiyar Siracov from Austria.

Reflecting on her participation, Dr Saida who is part of the Muscat-based Royal Conservatory of Music and Arts, expressed, “It was a great honour and a tremendous experience to engage in discussions about actively contributing to the development of the new Omani generation and advancing the cultural and arts sphere in Oman.”

Selected from over 400 applicants, Dr Saida was among the 80 scholars chosen to attend the forum. The primary objective was to bring together top academics to explore potential initiatives for enhancing Azerbaijan’s education sector. The forum also aimed to strengthen connections among scholars, academics, and Azerbaijani students studying abroad.

A significant goal was to forge collaborations with the newly established University of Karabakh in Khanken. The forum sought to connect scholars with this institution, facilitating future seminars and educational conferences led by Azerbaijani academics residing abroad.

The forum spanned three days, from September 9, culminating in a visit to the newly liberated region of Karabakh. Participants had the opportunity to tour several cities and explore the University of Karabakh, gaining valuable insights into its future role in Azerbaijan’s educational landscape.
