MUSCAT, SEPTEMBER 15
The OC team lifted the Under-23 3x3 Basketball Tournament’s title following their victory over Al Aamrat 14-11 in a thrilling final held at the Strike Sports Center at OAA. The tournament, organized in collaboration with the Oman Basketball Association 3x3 Committee, Strike Sports Center and Al Helm Company saw participation of 10 teams comprising club players and residents of Oman.
The tournament was marked by intense competition with teams divided into two groups and playing a round-robin format in the preliminary rounds. The top two teams from each group advanced to the semi-finals, which were played in a knockout format. The winners of the semi-finals faced off in the final for the championship while the losers competed for third place.
In the final, the OC and Al Aamrat teams delivered an evenly matched performance trading leads throughout the game. However, in the final minutes, OC managed to score a crucial three-pointer to secure a 14-11 victory.
At the tournament's conclusion, Alaa al Hadrami, a member of the OBA and Chairman of the 3x3 Committee, presented the awards to the winners. The OC team, consisting of Wahid Tasbaji, Zakaria Ajun and Shimin Adikio claimed the gold medals and a cash prize. Al Aamrat, comprising Qasi al Amri, Al Hawari al Hasheli, Mazen al Awisi and Ibrahim al Balushi secured the silver medals. Super Science clinched the bronze medal after defeating Breakly United 14-8.
Al Hadrami commended the high level of play displayed throughout the tournament, noting that the matches featured diverse styles and intense competition among the participating teams. He emphasized that club players and national team members benefited greatly from the tournament, with Al Aamrat, composed of national team players, reaching the final. This achievement reflects the players' exceptional technical skills and physical fitness, contributing to their second-place finish. al Hadrami added that the matches provided a valuable opportunity for players to compete, gain experience, and consistently deliver outstanding performances with a strong sporting spirit.
