Muscat - Fisheries Development Oman (FDO), the investment arm of Oman Investment Authority (OIA) in the fisheries sector, announced its participation in the upcoming Seventh Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo in St. Petersburg, Russia, next week.

In a statement, the Chairman of FDO, Muneer al Muneeri, highlighted the significance of FDO’s participation, "Our participation at the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia reinforces our mission to position Oman as a global leader in sustainable seafood, showcasing our vast marine resources and investment opportunities." Adding, "As a group leader in Oman’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, FDO proudly highlights Oman’s position as a major fish producer and net exporter within the GCC. We are committed to expanding our seafood exports by adhering to global standards of sustainability, food safety, and environmental responsibility, supported by Oman’s attractive business incentives and improving infrastructure." Four subsidiaries of FDO will participate in the Expo, including SIMAK—the largest tuna and sardine canning factory in the MENA region—with an annual capacity of 100 million cans per year.

Blue Waters, FDO’s aquaculture arm, has a capacity exceeding 5,000 tons of marine finfish and the production of 21 million juveniles per year.

In addition to Oman Pelagic, FDO’s commercial fishing arm specializes in pelagic and mesopelagic species, operating internationally with a focus on supplying premium tuna for global markets.

Also participating is Marsa al Duqm Investments Company, the lead developer behind the recently opened RO 63 million Multipurpose Fishing Port in Al Duqm, the largest in the country.

The port is currently operated by a consortium of companies, including Fisheries Development Oman (FDO), Oman Food Investment Company, and the French port of Lorient.

It includes a fishing harbor, cold storage facilities, and processing and packaging units.

According to earlier statements by the CEO of Fisheries Development Oman (FDO), Nabil al Bimani, the project will also include a fish market, a research and design center, a training center, and a fishery village to support artisanal fishers in the future.

The expo, which will take place next week from September 17–19, 2024, will host 400 companies from 14 countries.
