Muscat: The first legal symposium on the role of legal regulations and their Professional applications in the healthcare industry was successfully concluded by the Oman College of Health Sciences. The symposium took place on Wednesday at the main headquarters of the National Bank of Oman, under the auspices of Dr Said bin Harib al Lamki, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs.


The event, titled 'The Role of Legal Legislation and Its Professional and Judicial Applications in the Health Sector', saw a significant turnout of experts from both the health and legal fields.


The primary goal of the symposium was to emphasise the significance of legal legislation in enhancing healthcare quality and safeguarding the rights of patients and healthcare professionals. Discussions revolved around the impact of current laws and strategies for their advancement to align with modern progress.


Dr Fahd al Zadjali, Dean of the Oman College of Health Sciences, inaugurated the symposium and highlighted the institution's dedication to promoting legal and practical knowledge within the health sector. He underscored the importance of the symposium as a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences among specialists.


With 225 representatives from 45 different health professions and 58 legal experts from various institutions in attendance, the symposium received positive feedback. Abdulaziz al Shafi’i from the Oman College of Health Sciences expressed his satisfaction with the event's success, noting that it was initiated in response to the needs of students and healthcare staff during training and administrative proceedings.


The symposium featured three main sessions addressing practical issues and legal challenges in the health sector. The first session focused on legislative and legal aspects, with presentations by Dr Qais al Sabai and Dr Nasser al Azri discussing health legislation and its implementation challenges.


The second session delved into professional ethic s and judicial principles, presented by Professor Yahya al Farsi and Dr Mohammed al Shueili, respectively. Dr Amal al Balushi concluded the session with a presentation on ethical and legal standards for medical errors.


In the third session, the focus shifted to challenges and aspirations in legislative and educational realms of the health sector. Dr Asma al Balushi, Dr Qamra al Siriri, and Dr Inas Mohammed Qutaishat presented working papers on the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare.


Participants stressed the importance of ongoing symposia to foster collaboration among stakeholders, share expertise, and enhance health legislation in alignment with modern advancements.
