MUSCAT: The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) re-elected Abdullah Mohammed Bamakhalif as Chairman of OTTA for the 2024-2028 term. Sajad Mohammed Baqer earned the confidence of the general assembly members to be elected as vice-chairman. Sameer Shneen al Shukaili is the new face in the board after getting elected for the mandatory women's seat.


Three members were also selected for the Board of Directors including a new face in Majid Marhoon al Alawi while Mohammed al Jassasi and Masoud al Shaqsi, who is representing the athletes' committee will continue as board members. One member seat in the board is still vacant and will be occupied in the upcoming meeting of the General Assembly in coming March.


Seven clubs out of 10 attended the meeting including Seeb, Ibri, Ahli Sidab, Saham, Salalah, Qurayat, Yanqul and Masirah.


Abdullah Bamakhalif began his speech with thanking note to all members of the current board for their dedicated efforts despite the challenges faced. He also extended the clubs for their active role in supporting the association's programmes and competitions, and to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for their continuous support, as well as to the Oman Olympic Committee for their ongoing cooperation.


“The OTTA had managed to host 10 international tournaments over the past term as well as the major achievement of organising the World Table Tennis Veterans Championship in January 2023 with the participation of 1,600 players from 69 countries across the world. There were establishment of 10 youth centres across various sports complexes and clubs in Oman,” he pointed out.

Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, was re-elected as chairman of Oman Hockey Association (OHA) for another four-year term (2024-2028). This was announced during the Extraordinary General Assembly meeting of OHA on Monday in presence of all assembly general members and representatives of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.


Said Khalfan al Mamari, who was a board member in the previous term, was elected as vice-chairman in the new term. Rodaina Amer al Hajri managed to earn the confidence of the assembly general members after she received nine votes while her competitor Hanan al Harasi got two votes only. Additionally, three members were appointed to the Board of Directors including Ahmed Nasser al Darmaki, Hamad Mohammed al Batrani and Abdulrahman Mohammed al Balushi. Thani Saheem al Wahaibi was elected as the athletes committee representative on the board.

Dr Marwan al Jumaa, Chairman of OHA, affirmed that the previous term of the board has been filled with hard work and dedication. “I extend my thanks to the previous board for their tremendous efforts in enhancing the association's work. We focused on several pillars including the development of youth teams and the establishment of a women's national team to build a foundation for this important sector. Furthermore, OHA worked on improving the overall structure of the sport by developing referees, coaches and players. We hope to see more clubs participating in the General Assembly and in the various competitions organised by the association. We will certainly continue our journey to build a robust structure for Omani hockey in the coming period."


"We managed to organise several regional and international tournaments including the top global profile event represented by the opening edition of FIH Hockey5s World Cup Muscat 2024. This event was appreciated highly by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the participating countries. Our national teams also achieved several other accomplishments, alongside specialised programmes for all categories. This success was not by chance but rather the result of the hard work of the board members, association staff and various committees, as well as the support from the media,” he signed off.

Moosa al Balushi earned the trust and confidence of general assembly members of Oman Handball Associations (OHA) after he was elected as the chairman of OHA for the new term. Moosa was the Secretary-General of the previous board and he beat his competitor Mohammed al Musharafi in the election for chairman's post. Newcomer Yaqoob al Wahaibi was elected as vice-chairman while Abeer al Zadjali will continue in her role as board member for the women’s mandatory seat. The new board members were Iyad al Shanfari, Salim al Saadi and Mohammed al Dhoeri while Nasr al Hasani was elected as board member from the athletes committee.
