MUSCAT, SEPT 9
The Board of Directors of the Oman Football Association held an emergency meeting on Sunday, during which it was decided to continue the Omantel League competition with the participation of 12 clubs. This decision followed the confirmation of Dhofar Club's absence from the tournament due to its relegation to the First Division League. To compensate for this absence, Bahla Club was promoted from the First Division League based on the competition's regulations.
The relegation of Dhofar, considered one of the most prestigious clubs in the Sultanate of Oman with a history rich in achievements, came as a major blow to their fans and supporters. The relegation was resulted from the club’s failure to obtain the necessary local and Asian licenses required for participation in the league, which opened the door for Bahla Club's return to the Omantel League as the highest-ranked relegated club that met the licensing requirements.
Bahla Club received the news of its promotion to the Omantel League with great enthusiasm from its fans and management. The club’s management announced in an official statement that it had received a letter from the Oman Football Association confirming the team’s return to the Omantel League for the 2024-2025 season. The management emphasised that this promotion came after significant efforts to obtain the Asian license, allowing the club the opportunity to return to the Sultanate of Oman's premier league.
In preparation for the competition, Bahla’s management immediately began developing comprehensive technical and administrative plans to equip the team for the upcoming challenges. These plans include signing several local and foreign players in a bid to strengthen the squad and compete for top positions in the league. Despite facing significant financial challenges, the management affirmed its commitment to achieving the best possible results, aiming to bring joy to Bahla's loyal fans.
Bahla Club’s first test in the Omantel League will be against league leaders Seeb in the fourth round of the competition at the Ibri Sports Complex. This match presents a perfect opportunity for the team to prove its readiness and ability to compete in the tournament, especially against a club as large and powerful as Seeb, who have achieved numerous successes in recent years.
The club’s management pointed out that the primary goal for the upcoming season is to maintain the team’s presence among the top-tier clubs in the Omantel League while striving for positive results that bolster the club’s ambitions to compete for titles, despite the financial difficulties it faces.
