MUSCAT: People from various walks of life passionate about nourishing and sustaining organic farming came forward with a mission spreading the value of individual farming and distributed seeds of various fruits and vegetables to the members in Muscat on Friday.
The team of 'Oman Krishikkoottam' (Oman Agriculture Group), a dedicated community championing organic farming, aims at promoting sustainable farming practices. Oman Krishikkoottam provided free high-quality seeds to its members and urged to keep track on the growth stages of the crops, as part of their 14th annual seed distribution event.
The seeds included cucumber, spinach, drumstick, moringa, ladies finger, bottle guard, bitter guard, eggplant, baby marrow, carrot, beans, capsicum, cauliflower, mushroom, brocoli, and the like. The initiative, driven by a group of passionate agriculturists, drew enthusiastic participation from the community members keen about sustainable agriculture.
The programme was chaired by Shaiju Vethottil, while the session started with the welcome of Anwar Chenattu. Santosh Varghese inaugurated the seed distribution by handing a packet of seeds to George Mathew, a senior member and a well-wisher. Ajish Vasu thanked the attendees for taking the bold step towards self-reliance in farming and gifting their families with pesticide-free fruits and vegetables.
Highlighting the importance of organic farming, Suni Syam, Reshmi Sandeep, Selvi Sumesh and Vidyapriya delivered insightful classes on effective organic farming techniques and the benefits of producing pesticide-free vegetables at home.
Founded by a dedicated group of ten agriculture enthusiasts in Muscat, Oman Krishikkoottam has grown into a vibrant Facebook community with over 4,500 families engaged in organic farming practices.
The organisation’s mission is to educate and advocate the people about environmentally friendly farming methods, and the event marked a significant step in advancing towards the mission, according to the organisers. The group, while fostering a culture of organic farming, also honours best farmers of the year for their hardwork and dedication towards making the crops a reality.
