MUSCAT: Oman’s total natural gas production and imports soared past 32 billion cubic metres by the end of July 2024, reflecting a 5.5-per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

A significant portion of this gas — 63.6 per cent, or 20.748 billion cubic metres — was directed towards industrial projects, reinforcing the role of natural gas in powering Oman’s industrial growth. Other major consumers included oil fields, which used 6.347 billion cubic metres, and power generation stations, which accounted for 5.366 billion cubic metres. Industrial areas consumed a further 146.3 million cubic metres.

The report also highlighted that non-associated natural gas production, including imports, reached 26.033 billion cubic metres, while associated natural gas production stood at 6.574 billion cubic metres.

This data emphasises the critical importance of natural gas in Oman’s energy mix, driving industrial growth and supporting the country’s broader economic objectives. — ONA
