As expatriates in Oman gear up for the Onam festival, a harvest festival in South Asia, preparations are underway. People are collecting clothes and food ingredients for the ten-day celebration, which culminates on the tenth day with great enthusiasm. Along with the festival, competitions are also being organised.

Registration for the ‘Sing and Win’ competition is now open to both expatriates and Omanis. The registration period is from today, September 4, to September 6. Additionally, registration for the Payasam Competition (making traditional Indian kheer) will begin on September 6 and close on September 12, as per the organisers.

"This year’s Onam competitions, titled 'Madhuramai Padam Madhuryam Valambam Season 2’, are a follow-up to the successful results of last year’s competition, which saw a large number of participants from various backgrounds,” said Mohammed Haneefa, Country Manager of KM Trading Group in Oman, the main organiser of the event.

The event will feature two main activities: the Sing and Win Competition, and the Payasam Competition. It will take place on September 19 at KM Hypermarket, Al Khuwair branch, at 6 pm.

Participants aged between 10 and 20, of any nationality, with a passion for singing can register by sending a WhatsApp message to the provided number. Shortlisted participants will be notified and are expected to attend an audition round on Saturday, September 7, at City Seasons Hotel, Al Khuwair. The top 10 singers from the auditions will be selected to showcase their talents, with the final three winners announced by the judges during the competition on September 19.

The Payasam Competition is expected to have 30 contestants, taking place at the same venue on the same date. Entry is limited to registration, with the first 30 registrants qualifying for the competition. A panel of expert judges will select the top three winners, who will receive attractive gifts.
