Ministry of Labour adds new professions to Omanisation list

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has announced Ministerial Decree No. 501/2024, which amends several provisions of Ministerial Decree No. 235/2022.


The new decree introduces additional professions that are now restricted from being practiced by non-Omani workers, in line with the Labour Law issued under Royal Decree No. 53/2023.


The decision is a significant move aimed at enhancing employment opportunities for Omani nationals across various sectors, reinforcing the government's commitment to prioritizing local talent in the workforce.


List of Restricted Professions:


1. Driver of a refrigerated trailer and truck for transporting food and medical products


2. Driver of a truck and trailer for water transport


3. Hotel reception manager


4. Swimming rescuer


5. Tourist agent


6. Travel agent


7. Room service supervisor


8. Quality control manager


9. Quality officer


10. Drilling means engineer


11. Drilling Supervisor


12. Electrician/General Maintenance Technician


13. Mechanic/General Maintenance Technician


14. Drilling Measurement Engineer


15. Quality Supervisor


16. Aircraft Loading Supervisor


17. Marketing Specialist


18. Ship Mooring and Tying Worker


19. Labor Supervisor


20. Cargo Loading and Unloading Supervisor


21. Commercial Promoter (Sales Representative)


22. Commercial Broker


23. Goods Arranger


24. Flatbed Crane Driver


25. Forklift Driver

The decree specifies that certain professions will come under the restriction starting from different dates. While the majority of these professions will be restricted starting from September 2, 2024, others will follow from January 1, 2025, 2026, and 2027, ensuring a phased implementation.
