Mobile phone... and it's pitfalls

Let’s accept that mobile phones have become one of the key parts of our lives. Mobile has brought a change in human life. No one thought of such an invention and the day will come in human life with an instrument like mobile phone in his/her hand.

Just think of a day without looking at the screen of your cell phone. I do not deny the importance and the benefits of mobile phones in day-to-day life, but at the same time one should not ignore the adverse effects of mobile phone which is unknowingly ignored by us.

The excessive usage of the mobile phone for hours by teenagers is really affecting the social bonding, education, and their development. Many have still not understood and realised the long-term effects of mobile phone.

Due to mobile addiction children are not spending quality time with their near and dear ones. I also blame the parental community, up to a certain extent for this, as they are the ones who facilitate their kids with the mobile to keep them engaged which gives them the privacy but then later they regret for their decision.

The use of mobile phone affects the behavioural patterns among children as it’s difficult to monitor the content they are accessing on mobiles.

There is a negative impact on learning process of the child due to distraction, resulting in poor performance in academics. Apart from spending their quality time in browsing various sites or watching movies, the most common problems the teenagers nowadays face are chronic headache, depression, eye strain, anger, poor sleep, lack of efficiency in work and asperity. Children are experiencing severe obesity as they compromise on their physical exercises by replacing them with the games installed on their mobile phones.

The mobile phone keeps them away from maintaining cordial relationships with their family members and developing a strong and healthy social bonding. They prefer to text the messages rather than meeting in person. This not only minimises the communication skills to express them emotionally, but social and emotional development are also affected, and they remain in the 'isolated' world. Many times we hear mobile phones are one of the reasons for divorces or a child not having good relations with his/her parents.

The use of a mobile is becoming a barrier in meeting and making friends in real life, but losing the moments of life as many times they interact with strangers on social media platforms such as WhatsApp or Instagram.

Let’s accept that one has to enjoy the technology or else its harmful effects will result in slow death. I would like to add that the future isn’t on the screen, it’s in the choices one makes in the present moment.

People are prisoners of their phones. That is why they are called cell phones!
