Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority's National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre issued an update, alerting that the deep tropical depression currently centered in the northwest of the Indian subcontinent has intensified.
The depression, now approximately 1000 km from Oman's coast, has a wind speed of 28-30 knots. The center has indicated a 60% chance of the system developing into a tropical storm within the next 48 hours, potentially moving westward towards the Oman Sea.
"The deep tropical depression is centered in the northwest of the Indian subcontinent at a latitude of 23.7 north and a longitude of 69.4 east, and it’s about 1000 km away from the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman," a statement from the Met Office said.
Preliminary forecasts suggest that the tropical system could impact Oman's northern governorates as early as Sunday, 1st September, bringing with it varying intensities of rain. The Civil Aviation Authority has urged all residents to stay updated with the latest bulletins and warnings as the situation evolves.
