Muscat, AUGUST 27

Al Nasr and Oman Club played to a goalless draw in the third round of the Omantel League, marking the first draw of the new season at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Monday.

The match witnessed a strong start from Al Nasr, as they tried to open the scoring from the first minute, but Oman Club's defence was cohesive. Oman Club's first attempt came in the fourth minute with a shot by Mahmoud al Hasani, which did not pose a threat to Al Nasr's goal. Oman Club controlled the midfield during the first half, but without any significant effectiveness in front of Al Nasr's goal, so the first half ended in a goalless draw.

The second half began with a good spread of the two teams, with a continuous attack from Oman Club. The Oman Club coach made changes by bringing in Yazid al Rawahi instead of Abdulwahid al Hanai and the match witnessed a better performance from Al Nasr with repeated opportunities, especially through Yazid al Maashani. Despite the danger posed by Oman Club, Al Nasr's defence and goalkeeper continued to keep the net clean.

The attempts continued from both teams until the end of the match, which ended in a goalless draw, with each team earning one point. With this draw, Oman Club raised their tally to 7 points, occupying third place, while Al Nasr raised their score to 4 points in fifth place.

Oman Club dropped back in the race to compete for the top spot, as Seeb and Al Nahda led the competition with 9 points from 3 rounds, with Seeb outperforming on goal difference.

IBRI UPSET SOHAR

Ibri secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Sohar at the Sohar Sports Complex.

The first half ended in a goalless draw, as Sohar had the advantage and wasted several opportunities, most notably Mohsen Jawhar's shot in the fifth minute which was saved by Ibri goalkeeper Mutia al Saadi.

Sohar also had other opportunities through Ali Fadhel and Ahmed Masi, but without translating into goals. For their part, Ibri tried to enter the atmosphere of the match, and the first opportunity came in the 11th minute through Branly Augustin.

In the second half, the referee awarded a penalty kick to Ibri in the 47th minute, which was executed by Faisal al Aghbari, but Sohar goalkeeper Fayez al Rushaidi saved it. The two teams continued to search for a goal until the 80th minute when Faisal al Aghbari scored the winning goal for Ibri from a second penalty kick.

Despite Sohar's continuous attempts to equalise the score, they were unable to score. The match witnessed a large crowd of Sohar supporters who provided strong support for their team.

With this victory, Ibri got their first 3 points in the league after two consecutive defeats, while Sohar's balance froze at 3 points, but they remained ahead of Ibri on goal difference, occupying sixth place, while Ibri came in eighth place.

AL RUSTAQ THUMP SAHAM

Al Rustaq secured a deserved 3-1 victory over Saham at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex.

The two teams started the first half cautiously, with multiple attempts from both sides without translating into goals. The scoreless draw continued until the 64th minute, when Mohammed al Najashi managed to break the deadlock by scoring the first goal for Al Rustaq with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.

It was not long before Saham quickly got back into the game, as Prince Obengo scored the equaliser in the 66th minute after successfully penetrating the Al Rustaq defence. However, Al Rustaq did not back down, but continued to press until Fiston Abdul managed to score the second goal in the 82nd minute. Five minutes before the end of the match, Abdulaziz al Shaqsi strengthened Al Rustaq’s lead with the third goal in the 85th minute, thus confirming his team’s superiority on the field.

With this victory, Al Rustaq managed to collect their first 3 points in the league after suffering two consecutive defeats in the previous two rounds, while Saham remained without points, recording their third loss in a row.

This round is the last before the international break, as the Oman national team prepares to participate in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The top-tier Oman league will resume on September 14 for the fourth round.
