Oman took part in the Arab Tennis Championship for Juniors for age groups under-12 and under-14 years held in Tunisia from August 16 to 24.
The Arab Tennis Championship was organised by the Tunisian Tennis Federation in cooperation with the Arab Tennis Federation. The conclusion came under the patronage of the Tunisian Minister of Youth and Sports Kamal Daqish and in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed al Jaber al Sabah, President of the Arab Tennis Federation and President of the Tunisian Tennis Federation Dr Salma al Moulahi and in the presence of a number of dignitaries and ambassadors.
Egypt won the gold in the under-14 boys and girls sections. In under-14 boys section, Algeria took the silver while Morocco claimed the bronze medal.
In the under-14 girls category, Tunisia (A) came second and Morocco finished third.
In the under-12 boys, Syria won first place, Tunisia (A) came in second and Algeria finished third. In under-12 girls, Tunisia (A) came on top ahead of Tunisia (B) and followed by Lebanon.
Along with the top place winners, other teams were also honoured for the participation in the tournament.
Earlier, Ambassador Dr Hilal bin Abdullah al Sinani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia, visited the national tennis team at the team's residence, where he met with the delegation of the Omani tennis team, stressing the importance of ensuring that all appropriate conditions are provided for them and wishing them a pleasant stay.
Dr Hilal also touched on the importance of participating in tournaments to develop technical levels, concluding that their age is at the beginning of their sports career, and that success and achievements come in succession, wishing them further progress and prosperity.
In tournament action, the Oman boys' team lost to Bahrain 2-1 in a good contest, while the girls' team recorded a victory over Lebanon 3-0.
