Hundreds take part in 'Rally For Relief' badminton tourney

MUSCAT: In a heartfelt effort to support the victims of the recent natural disaster in South Indian state Kerala's Wayanad, the Oasis Badminton Academy in Oman, in collaboration with Team Azaiba, organised a badminton tournament. The event, held last Friday at the academy in Ghala, witnessed the participation of hundreds of people who came together to contribute to the noble cause.


The tournament featured competitions in several categories, including Men’s Doubles 'A', Men’s Doubles 'B', Premier Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Veteran Doubles. In the Premier Men’s Doubles category, the pair of Antika Syaputra and Nisar Mohammed emerged as the winners. The Men’s Doubles 'A' category was won by Anisulal Rubilal and Pramod Balan, while Faisal P and Thaha Mohammed secured victory in Men’s Doubles 'B'. The Women’s Doubles category saw Bith Mansoori and Elnaaz Sherdel take the top spot, while Bala and Lakshmi Iyer won in the Mixed Doubles category. The Veteran Doubles category was clinched by Chandrasekhar and Jinesh.


The winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies by prominent figures, including Nasser al Harthy, Chairman of Shaay Oman & EcoKleen; Nihal P, Global Head of Operations, Shaay Global; Yogendra Katiyar, Chairman of Oasis Badminton Academy; Madhu Nambiar, member of Morning Star Badminton Club; Anu Chandran, Secretary of Malayalam Mission Oman Chapter and Bijoy Parat from Team Azaiba.


The official inauguration ceremony was presided over by Bipin Parat, President of Team Azaiba, and attended by Sunil Kumar KK, President of Malayalam Mission Oman Chapter; social activist Riyas Ambalavan; Yogendra Katiyar, Chairman of Oasis Badminton Academy; and Mohammed, Chairman of Muscat Badminton Club. Jagadeesh Keeri, Secretary of Team Azaiba, delivered the welcome address.


The tournament’s entry fee was set at RO 5, with additional contributions raised through donations from spectators and raffle tickets. All proceeds from the event were donated to support the landslide victims in Wayanad. Participants and spectators alike expressed their wholehearted support for the sincere efforts made by Oasis Badminton Academy and Team Azaiba to aid those affected by the disaster in Wayanad.


The organisers expressed their deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the tournament, including players, spectators, and the technical team from Morning Star Badminton Club. The tournament was sponsored by Layali Ghala Restaurant, EcoKleen, and Shaay Oman, with Kosmos Sports providing gifts for the raffle winners.
