MoE, MoHESRI joint panel holds second meeting

MUSCAT: The joint committee between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation held its second meeting last week in the Nizwa Hall at the Ministry’s General Diwan.


The committee was chaired by Prof Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Education, and by Dr Bakhit bin Ahmed Al Mahri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.


The meeting discussed aspects of joint cooperation and exchange of expertise and information in various aspects between the two ministries in the field of controls and conditions for accepting students in educational specialisations and educational qualification programmes, and the involvement of experts and curriculum specialists in the ministry in joint committees with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation.


The meeting also addressed the creation of postgraduate programmes and studies that are compatible with the new curricula and study paths to prepare specialised teachers, and the extent of readiness for the outputs of the vocational and technical education path in coordination with educational institutions to accommodate these outputs to continue university studies in these specialisations according to priority.


It also discussed the development of a description of the new study materials for the academic year 2024-2025 that are compatible with the offered study programmes, and participation in determining the elective materials for grades 9-12 that are compatible with the needs of higher education institutions and the labor market. The committee also reviewed the cooperation in implementing the ‘Work Experience’ and ‘My Specialisation is My Profession’ programmes.


The meeting also discussed the possibility of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation obtaining the Ministry of Education’s needs for teachers and specialisations for the next 5 years; to develop appropriate plans to provide these needs and to establish lists of students benefiting from the specified study seats for the teaching jobs localisation programme, and other areas of joint cooperation between the two ministries.
