MUSCAT, AUGUST 21
As many as 196 doctors from various health institutions in the Sultanate of Oman recently joined specialised training programmes being conducted by Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) during the current academic year 2024/2025.
The batch includes 60 doctors from internship programmes and 5 doctors from the Royal Hospital’s local fellowship programmes (paediatric intensive care), the University Medical City’s department of genetic medicine and adult blood diseases (Sultan Qaboos University Hospital) and Al Nahda Hospital’s department of ear medicine and surgery.
In the coming weeks, interactive meetings will be held between new doctors, training programme directors, and members of educational committees to introduce doctors to their training programmes and facilitate their integration into the academic and training environment.
These meetings will take place at the council’s headquarters or at accredited training centres like Ministry of Health hospitals, the Medical City for Military and Security Forces, and the University Medical City. The aim is to provide information on medical training in specialty programmes and address any inquiries.
In an effort to meet the growing needs of the health sector, a new training programme in the specialty of neurology has been launched, receiving its first batch of trainees this year. Doctors will train over 5 years in accredited centres that combine theoretical and practical education.
The Oman Medical Specialty Board provides various training programmes that aim to raise the efficiency of doctors and equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide high-quality healthcare.
The council is the leading authority in advanced medical education in the Sultanate of Oman, offering internationally accredited programmes that contribute to improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients.
Dr Yasser al Lawati, an emergency medicine specialist, advised the new batch of doctors to recognise the importance of enjoying life and taking care of themselves. He encouraged them to embark on this journey together, making the most of every moment. "Taking time for yourself is not just a luxury but a necessity," he emphasised.
Dr Al Lawati urged them to carve out time in their busy schedules for self-care and relaxation. Whether it's reading a book, going for a walk, or spending time with loved ones, he stressed that investing in personal well-being ultimately enables them to share their positive energy and compassion with others.
