In the serene corners of Oman, where the echoes of ancient civilizations in Africa and Asia resonate, a new wellness trend is quietly emerging, particularly in Muscat. The soothing sounds of singing bowls, gongs, and chimes are becoming an integral part of Omani wellness culture.

Sound healing therapy, an ancient practice now gaining renewed popularity, is being embraced in a country that deeply values its rich cultural heritage and is open to both traditional and alternative healing methods.

Increasingly, wellness centres across Oman are offering sound healing sessions, both private and group, attracting individuals seeking holistic approaches to health and well-being.

Sound healing therapy, which uses sound frequencies to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit, is gaining global recognition, and Oman is no exception. This holistic practice involves using various instruments—such as singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks—to produce vibrations that promote healing. These vibrations help reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and foster emotional and physical well-being. Rooted in the belief that sound influences our energetic fields, sound healing seeks to bring balance and harmony to the individual.

Mazoon Said Al Zadjali, a specialist and coach who trained in sound healing in Nepal and offers practical and consultation sessions in Muscat, explains: "Sound healing is a powerful therapy that combines healing sounds, music, and instruments to enhance our multidimensional well-being. It creates a beautiful experience where all layers of our energy field—body, mind, and soul—are awakened gently and lovingly."

When asked about the instruments she uses and her approach to conducting sessions, Mazoon shares, "Each session is unique and tailored to the client's needs. My primary instrument is the handpan, a handmade instrument, along with Tibetan singing bowls. I also use a variety of handmade instruments such as the rain stick, wave sound, drum, and tree sound, all of which produce natural sounds. The session begins with a brief consultation to understand the client's needs, followed by breathing techniques and meditation to induce relaxation before the therapy session, which includes the use of Tibetan singing bowls. We conclude with a meditation to close the session."

To gain deeper insights into the impact of sound healing therapy, we spoke with three individuals in Oman who have experienced its benefits firsthand.

Fatma Al-Harthi, a 35-year-old teacher, turned to sound healing during a period of intense stress. "I was overwhelmed with work and personal responsibilities. A friend recommended sound healing, and though I was sceptical at first, my first session was transformative. The soothing sounds of the singing bowls enveloped me, and I felt a profound sense of calm. Over time, I noticed improved sleep and a more positive outlook on life."

Ahmed Al-Busaidi, a 40-year-old engineer, sought sound healing for chronic back pain. "I had tried various treatments, but nothing provided lasting relief. During the sessions, the vibrations of the tuning forks resonated deeply with my body. The pain started to diminish, and I felt more relaxed. It was a holistic healing experience that addressed not just the physical pain but also emotional stress."

Layla Al-Saidi, a 28-year-old artist, embraced sound healing as a means of self-exploration. "I wanted to connect more deeply with myself and my creative energies. The gong baths I attended allowed me to enter a meditative state, where I experienced vivid visions and heightened creativity. It was a journey within, revealing aspects of myself I hadn't recognized. Sound healing opened new pathways for my art and personal growth."

Mazoon adds, "Sound healing triggers a relaxation response that counters many symptoms caused by chronic stress, helping to balance our entire being."
