MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has initiated preparations to localise the ‘heart transplant services’ as part of the National Organ Transplant Programme from 2023 to 2025.
In this context, the technical committee for heart transplantation in the National Organ Transplant Programme on Monday held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health.
The meeting was aimed at preparing for the initiation of heart transplant operations in Oman. It also discussed the necessary medical and surgical equipment and human resources required for these procedures and started to create national waiting lists for patients with heart failure.
Dr Ahmed bin Said al Busaidy, Director of the National Organ Transplant Programme, said that the preparation to localise heart transplant services is part of the country’s efforts to enhance and develop the healthcare services provided to citizens.
This initiative aims to provide all available means and solutions to save the lives of patients suffering from organ failure, thereby improving community health, individual well-being and overall quality of life.
It is worth mentioning that the National Organ Transplant Programme has activated the option for heart donation after death through the Ministry of Health’s Shifa application.
