Salalah: Salalah is set to become the epicentre of Omani craftsmanship with launch yesterday, August 18, of the “Authenticity and Modernity” Craft Heritage Exhibition under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Mohsin al Ghassani, Chairman of the Dhofar Municipality.
Running from August 18 to 22 at the Gardens Mall, the exhibition showcases the intricate details and innovative designs of Omani crafts. From the delicate artistry of silver jewellery to the intricate patterns of woven textiles, visitors can immerse themselves in a world of heritage and creativity.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) aims to highlight the economic potential of these traditional crafts, in addition to their cultural significance. By bringing together artisans, businesses, and tourism stakeholders, the event hopes to stimulate investment and job creation in the sector.
“This exhibition is more than just a showcase; it's a platform for artisans to connect with the public and for the public to appreciate the rich tapestry of Omani culture,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry.
Abdullah al-Aamri, Head of the Temporary Exhibitions Department at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said: "The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, represented by the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, has organized the 'Authenticity and Modernity' Craft Heritage Exhibition. The exhibition aims to highlight the cultural, economic, and social significance of this heritage and demonstrates the cultural depth of various elements. It also aims to connect relevant stakeholders and showcase successful experiences in integrating these heritage elements to enrich tourism. Additionally, it empowers artisans to display, market, and sell their products during various seasons." The exhibition features the participation of 10 traditional artisans from Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates, as well as several leading companies that have incorporated traditional crafts into various fields.
"This exhibition is a collaborative effort with the Small and Medium Enterprises Authority, and includes the participation of some hotel companies, owners of traditional lodges, and private museums," he added
