Muscat: The excitement continues in the Omantel Football League with the start of the second round, as all eyes turn to the anticipated confrontations between Ibri and Al Nahda, Sur and Al Khabourah and Seeb and Al Shabab. The confrontations come after an exciting first round that witnessed 13 goals being scored, which foretells strong matches and fierce competition between the teams.
The Ibri team will host Al Nahda, the league runners-up last season, at their home stadium in the Ibri Sports Complex on Tuesday evening. Al Nahda eyes a second consecutive victory after their victory in the opening round. Al Nahda aspire to continue their superiority over Ibri, the team that suffered a defeat in the round. For their part, Ibri will seek to regain their balance by achieving a positive result that satisfies their fans.
At 7 pm, Sur Sports Complex will witness a strong confrontation between Sur and Al Khabourah. Sur entered the match relying on the fans' support to achieve an ideal start in their first appearance this season after their first match against Dhofar was postponed. In contrast, Al Khabourah seek to follow up on their 2-1 victory over Al Shabab in the first round, trying to come out with a positive result against a veteran team on its home ground.
AL SHABAB LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK
In the third match at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex, defending champion Seeb seek to continue their winning streak after the big win over Ibri in the first round. In contrast, Al Shabab are looking to overcome the shock of the sudden loss to Al Khabourah and achieve a positive result against Seeb.
The matches of the second week of the Omantel League will be completed on Wednesday evening with two matches. Al Nasr will host Sohar team at Al Saada Sports Complex in a match in which Al Nasr will try to achieve positive results after suffering a loss in the first round, while Sohar Club will enter the match to win and not lose points. Al Rustaq meet Oman Club at Al Rustaq Sports Complex in the second match.
Meanwhile, the Oman Football Association has decided to postpone Dhofar’s matches in the first three rounds of the league, until the issue of local/Asian licenses currently being heard in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The CAS held a hearing last Monday, after all Omani clubs had completed the cases in which rulings were issued suspending their player registrations.
