Educationist wins ‘Indian of the Year 2024’ award

Renowned educationist and social worker in Muscat, Rayees Ahmed, was awarded the 'Indian of the Year 2024' award by the Indian Social Club (ISC), a platform for Indians in Oman. The award was presented at a gala Indian Independence Day event organised by the ISC at Al Bustan hotel recently.


The award, which included a plaque, citation, and ceremonial shawl, was presented by the Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Amit Narang. Present at the ceremony were Babu Rajendran, President of ISC, Shakeel KM, General Secretary, Suhail Khan, Entertainment and Cultural Secretary, Govind Negi, Treasurer, Shameer PTK, Community Welfare, Mariam Cheriyan, Lady Coordinator, Sanjit Kanojia, and other executive committee members.


Ahmed serves as the CEO of a private firm, the president of the Indian School Al Ghubra, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian Schools in Oman. He holds various honorary positions aimed at improving private education standards in Oman and supporting the less fortunate. Rayees was also the founder convener of the Malabar Wing under the ISC.


According to Shakeel, Ahmed's exceptional services during the Covid pandemic, including distributing food kits, medicines, and organizing repatriation flights for stranded individuals in Oman, have brought smiles to many faces and earned him recognition from local and expatriate authorities.


Throughout his career, Ahmed has been actively involved in education, playing a pivotal role in establishing the Indian School Al Ghubra and serving as its president. He is also the executive president of the E Ahmed Model United Nations and leads various social and charitable movements. Additionally, he is the president of Jamia Hamdard University Kannur campus and oversees the DIS orphanage and girls’ school, which houses 3,500 students.


In his speech, Rayees Ahmed dedicated the award to the countless unknown individuals working tirelessly for the betterment of humanity and those on a mission to change the world for the better.
