Muscat: Oman's bodybuilders showed an impressive show at the fifth edition of the West Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship which concluded recently in Muscat. Oman bodybuilding and fitness team claimed the top spot in the overall standings with a total score of 325 points while Iraq came in second with 234 points and Iran team with 204 points in third position at the West Asia event which took place at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex during August 15 to 17. Oman’s bodybuilders and Physique stars managed to earn a total of 46 medals including 20 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze.
The event was organized by Oman Bodybuilding Committee (OBC) in coordination with West Asian Bodybuilding Federation. The three days event featured attendance of eleven countries with presence of more than 100 participants. The concluding ceremony was held under presence of HH Sayyid Firas bin Fatik al Said alongside of Rafael Santonja, President of the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) and several distinguished global and regional officials. With the above achievement, the Omani topper bodybuilders will represent the country in the regional and international Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.
The opening day of the championship began with physique competitions. In the junior category for ages 16-23 and up to 176 cm in height, Omani athletes represented by Abdullah al Amri and Moosa al Balushi claimed both first and second places while UAE team finished third.
In the junior category for ages 16-23 and over 176 cm in height, Oman continued their dominance as they won this category of the competition while Jordan and Bahrain came in second and third places respectively. In the masters category for ages over 40, Kuwait claimed the first place and it is followed by UAE in second and Iraq in third.
At the men's muscular physique category up to 176 cm in height, Oman took first place through Muneer al Luwaihi while Iraq secured both second and third places. In the muscular physique category over 176 cm Omani athletes represented by Bader al Hosni, Ahmed al Hadi and Mohammed Arslan claimed the first awards taking all three top spots in the podium. The Omani team also excelled in the men's physique category up to 170 cm claiming the top three positions by Nasr al Wahaibi, Asad al Wahaibi and Abdullah al Amri.
For the men's physique category up to 173 cm, the UAE team took first place while Bahrain came in second and Kuwait finished in third. In the men's physique category up to 176 cm, Oman took first and third places while Kuwait positioned as runner up. In the men's physique category up to 179 cm, the UAE took first place while Oman secured second and third positions. In the men's physique category over 179 cm, the UAE won first place, Iraq took second and Jordan came in third.
Bodybuilding Competitions
Oman bodybuilders delivered an outstanding performance in the Bodybuilding competitions. claimed first place in the bodybuilding category up to 65 kg through Sameer al Gharibi with Iraq in second and the UAE team in third place. In the bodybuilding category up to 70 kg, Oman by Sulaiman al Ofi claimed first place and he followed by Jordan in second and Iraq in third positions. In the bodybuilding category up to 75 kg, Oman dominated the top three positions as they secured all the medals by Khalid al Shukiali, Haitham al Zadjali and Adil al Mushefri.
In the junior bodybuilding category for ages 16-23 and up to 175 cm in height, Iraq took first place while Iran secured second and Syria came in third. In the junior bodybuilding category for ages 16-23 and over 175 cm in height, Iraq took first place wile Syria secured second and Oman came in third.
In the men's bodybuilding category up to 171 cm, Iran managed to end as topper while Oman secured second place and Iraq team came in third. In the men's bodybuilding category up to 175 cm, Iran claimed all the medals in this category by Kambiz Hedari, Seyed Hassan and Farzin Firdouzi. In the men's bodybuilding category up to 180 cm, Iraq took first place and it is followed by Syria in second and Iran in third place. In the men's bodybuilding category over 180 cm Oman took first and third place by Zaeem al Fazari and Ahmed Shetweny with Iran securing second place.
In the junior bodybuilding category for ages 16-23 and up to 75 kg in weight, Iraq took first and second places while Bahrain secured third place. In the junior bodybuilding category for ages 16-23 and over 75 kg in weight, Iraq topped this category while Iran secured second and UAE came in third. In the masters bodybuilding category for ages over 40 and up to 80 kg in weight, Oman took first and second places with Syria securing third. In the masters bodybuilding category for ages over 40 and over 80 kg in weight, Bahrain took first place and it is followed by UAE in second and Iran in third. This successful campaign highlights the strength and skill of Omani athletes in the region, reflecting the country's growing prowess in the sport of bodybuilding and physique.
