SALALAH: The Oman Broadband Marathon for Governorates, in its second edition for 2024, was held on Friday. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in collaboration with the Oman Athletics Federation, the event attracted a diverse range of competitors from within Oman and beyond.
The marathon featured three race categories to accommodate various age groups and skill levels: a 2-kilometre race for children aged 7-12 years, a 5-kilometre race for participants aged 13 and above, and a 10-kilometre race for those aged 18 and above.
Samira bint Shaneen Al Shakili, Director of the Sports Activities Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, emphasised that the event aims to engage as many sports enthusiasts, athletes, and runners as possible. By involving all segments of society, the marathon seeks to promote health awareness and highlight the tourism appeal of the region.
The carefully structured race categories ensure that participants of all ages and abilities, from professional runners to beginner amateurs, have an opportunity to compete and enjoy the event.
