Oman issues around 2,800 e-commerce licenses in H1 2024

MUSCAT: The Oman Business Platform of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has completed 487,300 transactions in the first half of 2024, while the number of automatic licenses submitted in the same period of the current year amounted to 195,556 licenses.


The number of non-automatic licenses issued through the Platform was 6,061 in the first half of this year, and the number of e-commerce licenses was 2,747 licenses during the same period in 2024.


MoCIIP through the Oman Business Platform aims to facilitate the procedures for starting businesses and encourage investors to establish various projects that support the national economy and enhance economic activity, in addition to improving and facilitating business for investors, so that they can apply the best international practices through the platforms, as it is a single point of access to all electronic government services.


Mubarak bin Mohammed al Duhani, Director General of Commerce and Head of the Digital Transformation Team at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said: Oman Business Platform provides many facilities and services to investors, bringing the number of services provided to about 50 electronic services that contribute to enhancing the business environment. Statistics showed an increase in downloads of the Oman Business Platform application via smart devices, reaching 7,245 downloads of the application, including 3,209 on the Android version and 4,036 on the “IOS” version.


He pointed out that the services provided through the Platform include the service of certificates of origin for Arab, Singaporean, and AFTA countries, services for updating investor data, registering patents and registering industrial models, licenses for the free zone in Salalah and Suhar, visual documentation for transferring ownership of the commercial register, the freelance work service, marketing and promotion activity through social media sites, reducing fees for the foreign investment register and treating it as an Omani investor.


The service of requesting to change the legal form from a sole proprietorship to a commercial company has also been launched, in addition to the service of evaluating the satisfaction of beneficiaries of self-services electronically through the Platform.


MoCIIP in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Municipalities Sector in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, through the Oman Business Platform, launched electronic services in the private school education sector and launched the service of issuing commercial signs by integrating this service into the service of applying for economic activity licenses when registering the new branch of the place of practicing activities.


The number of transactions completed through the self-service last year amounted was 280,311, while the number of transactions completed through the free zones (Sohar - Duqm - Al Mazunah) during the past year was 653 transactions, and the number of transactions completed through law firms last year was 3,898 transactions, and the number of transactions completed through Sanad offices during the year 2023 was 377,746.
