Muscat: The Fertility Centre at Al Wattayah Gynecology and Obstetrics Complex on Wednesday announced the birth of the first baby girl to a 37-year-old mother.
The Fertility Centre is the first government centre specializing in fertility in the Sultanate of Oman. It receives more than 60 cases weekly and the male clinic receives more than 60 cases weekly while 15 to 20 fertilization operations are performed every week.
Dr Rahma bint Salem al Ghabshiyah, Head of the Fertility Centre, said this was one of the first cases to undergo fertility treatment since the opening of the centre. She had been following up for a long time in the delayed pregnancy clinic and had received many treatments including stimulants and artificial insemination. She also suffers from diabetes and an underactive thyroid gland.
After continuous follow-up and intensive care at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department at Khawla Hospital, the woman conceived and finally gave birth to her first baby girl by caesarean section. The baby weighs 2.56 kilogrammes and is in good health.
The Fertilization Centre at the Al Wattayah Gynecology and Obstetrics Complex affiliated with the General-Directorate of Khawla Hospital, represents a glimmer of hope for couples with infertility issues craving for an elusive parenthood. The centre has a medical team comprising experienced infertility and pregnancy consultants, embryology technicians and specialists.
