AUGUST 13

On the occasion of International Youth Day, which is celebrated on August 12 every year, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) issued a report that highlights some important statistics related to Omani youth.

This data highlights the role of youth as a driving force in the economic and social development of the Sultanate of Oman, as well as emphasising the importance of empowering and supporting them to achieve their goals.

According to the report, the number of Omani youth aged between 18 and 29 years by the end of June 2024 amounted to about 535,041 young people. This age group represents a large percentage of the population and is considered the backbone of the future of the Sultanate of Oman. This figure shows the importance of youth in Omani society, as they contribute to various sectors and constitute a large part of the workforce.

In the field of entrepreneurship, the report revealed that the number of Omani youth who own businesses reached 7,134 young people. This figure expresses a significant increase in the number of young people who have chosen the path of entrepreneurship. This trend reflects the growing ambition of Omani youth to establish their own projects, which contributes to diversifying the national economy and creating new job opportunities. This result is a positive indicator of economic growth and the trend towards innovation and leadership among young people.

In another context, the report indicated that the number of Omani youth who own housing units reached 13,437 young people. This number reflects the success of young people in achieving economic independence and their ability to invest in long-term assets. The ownership of housing units by young people is an indicator of their ability to plan for the future and provide stability for their families.

These statistics show the great importance of young people in Omani society and their pivotal role in building the future of the country. This report emphasises the need to enhance policies and programs that enhance the empowerment of young people and provide them with the necessary opportunities to achieve their ambitions and contribute to the renaissance of the country. On International Youth Day, these numbers are a reminder of the importance of investing in the next generation to ensure Oman's sustainable and prosperous future.
