SALALAH: As part of the Labour Forum in Salalah, Dr Mahad bin Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, engaged with business owners and investors at the Sultan Qaboos Complex for Culture and Entertainment on Monday.
He outlined the Ministry’s initiatives to enhance the labor market, including support for private sector institutions and regulatory frameworks aimed at stability and global competitiveness.
Dr Ba’owain highlighted the need for accelerated efforts to address current challenges and leverage advancements that benefit the economy, emphasizing the role of human resources in driving progress.
He also pointed out the significant strides made by the Social Dialogue Committee in fostering partnerships between the government, employers, and workers to boost production.
The Minister underscored the rapid growth of Dhofar’s private sectors, particularly in tourism, and the contributions of SMEs and their national workforce. He called for greater focus on innovative entrepreneurial projects and support for training programs to meet the labor market's needs.
Business leaders discussed challenges, particularly in the SME sector, and sought ways to simplify procedures for project establishment and expansion, Omanisation efforts, and employment strategies for the national workforce.
The Ministry organizes the Labor Forum as a national dialogue platform, underscoring Oman’s commitment to integrating efforts across government, private, and academic sectors to achieve sustainable development in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Dr Mahad Ba’owain highlighted the importance of these initiatives, particularly the need to invest in the development of the national workforce. He emphasized that creating a conducive environment for investment is not merely a goal but a necessity if Dhofar is to achieve its full economic potential. The partnership between the Ministry of Labour and the Chamber of Commerce is thus seen as a pivotal step towards realizing this vision.
The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman in Dhofar echoed these sentiments, praising the collaborative spirit that characterized the meeting. He stressed that the synergy between the public and private sectors is essential for driving both economic and social progress in the governorate.
The initiatives agreed upon in this meeting are more than just plans on paper; they represent a shared commitment to fostering a brighter future for Dhofar.
