MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoTCIT) is poised to unveil an international tender for the ambitious Khor Grama Project located in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. This venture marks a significant milestone in the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to bolster its maritime infrastructure and enhance its coastal tourism offerings.

The tender process, set to commence with the opening of bids next month, seeks to attract global expertise in designing and supervising the multifaceted development. Interested parties were invited to purchase tender documents starting from August 8, 2024, with a pre-bid clarification deadline set for August 15, 2024. The cut-off date for bid submissions and the opening of technical bids is slated for September 1, 2024, while the commercial bids will be revealed on September 22, 2024.

Khor Grama, strategically located just 14.4 kilometres from the Ras al Hadd village, is renowned for its serene waters and historical significance as a safe harbour for maritime trade. The project aims to leverage this strategic location to create a modern marina capable of accommodating 75 luxury yachts and 20 excursion boats. Additionally, it will feature a dedicated Fishermen Bay, a water entertainment sports area, and comprehensive infrastructure developments including breakwaters, shaded car parking, and extensive landscaping over a 300,000 sqm area.

The development blueprint also encompasses essential services such as emergency and security facilities, new road construction, and maintenance plans for existing roads, dredging of a channel and marina basin, and the installation of fuel pump facilities. The consultant's role will extend to preparing construction tenders and providing technical support and supervision services to ensure the project's seamless execution.

As of August 10, 2024, a total of 23 reputable consultancy firms have acquired the tender documents, showcasing the project's international appeal.

Khor Grama's development is part of a broader vision by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, which earlier this year announced plans for a future city in the area. This vision underscores the importance of Khor Grama and Ras al Hadd in Oman’s trade and tourism landscape, given their historical role in facilitating maritime connections between the Gulf states, the Arab world, and Africa.

The lagoon's unique features, such as its multiple meanders, calm waters, and soft sands, not only enhance its natural beauty but also its suitability for a high-profile marina and recreational hub. The planned development is expected to significantly boost local and international tourism, drive economic growth, and reinforce Khor Grama's position as a pivotal maritime and commercial landmark.
