Muscat: The Dhofar Khareef Tent Pegging Championship was launched on Monday evening at Ateen equestrian track in the Wilayat of Salalah. The event is part of equestrian activities during khareef season, organised by Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation, in cooperation with the Dhofar Equestrian Committee and support of Dhofar Governor’s Office, Dhofar Municipality, Dhofar Equestrian Company, Dhofar Tourism and Salalah Flour Mills Company.


The competitions witnessed seven teams from various cavalry units and private stables, seven rounds were on the first day represented by individual spear, double spear, and spear teams for different sizes of pegs.


The Sultan of Oman's Armored Division (B) team won the first day title at team level, represented by Ahmed bin Khamis al Balushi, Mohammed bin Khamis al Siyabi, Hisham bin Ali al Bakri and Zaid bin Hamoud al Saidi. The Sultan of Oman's Armored Division (A) team claimed second place, represented by Khalid bin Amer al Habsi, Khalid bin Salem al Maamari, Ali bin Khamis al Balushi and Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi. Royal Oman Police (B) team finished third, represented by Salem bin Khamis al Harthy, Hussein bin Ali al Hosni, Mohammed bin Said al Abroui and Dawood bin Aajeb al Mashrafi.

At the individual level, Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi, from the Sultan of Oman's Armored Division (A), won first place. Hussein bin Ali al Hosni, from the Royal Oman Police Cavalry won the second place.Namir bin Mohammed al Shidi, from the Namir Equestrian School, won third place.


At the end of first day, Hamoud bin Ali al Nasiri, Secretary-General of Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation, crowned the champions at team and individual levels.


Champion of 100 km Race


Recently, Knight Noah bin Abdulrahim al Balushi, riding the horse 'Ghazi Al Ghawazi', won the title of the Dhofar khareef 2024 Local Endurance Race for a distance of 100 km, which was held on Khor Al Dahariz beach with the participation of 38 horses.


The horse 'HM Love Kuwait', ridden by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Fouri, won second place. The horse 'Aida', ridden by Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al Shamsi, won third place.


The race included three stages: the first stage for a distance of 38 km and was given the white colour, the second stage for a distance of 38 km and was also given the white colour and the third and final stage was allocated the yellow colour for a distance of 24 km.
