SALALAH: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has launched the national campaign 'Our Sustainable Energy' in Dhofar Governorate. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with governmental and private institutions, as well as civil society organizations, aims to elevate awareness about clean energy and foster practices that ensure efficient energy consumption.
The campaign was launched in the presence of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and Dr. Mansoor bin Taleb Al-Hinai, Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Authority.
Dr. Al Hinai highlighted Oman's commitment to renewable energy, aligning with the national objectives of Oman Vision 2040. This vision seeks to increase reliance on renewable energy to 39 percent of the total energy supply by 2040 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
"The shift towards clean energy sources is a vital necessity and an economically practical pathway to a sustainable future and development," he said.
He emphasized that APSR has been proactive in implementing national strategies for renewable energy projects, aiming to bolster economic diversification and enhance sustainable energy practices.
The "Our Sustainable Energy" campaign is a continuation of the Authority’s initiatives in the clean energy sector. Earlier this year, the Authority announced plans for five new wind power stations and several solar energy projects, including Abri 1, Abri 2, Abri 3, Manah 1, and Manah 2. These initiatives are part of the goal to produce 30% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Kalbani, Director General of Sustainable Energy at the Authority, presented the campaign's objectives and timeline, which includes workshops and direct meetings across various Omani governorates. These workshops will engage 180 participants from government and private entities, volunteer organizations, and service institutions, who will in turn train hundreds more within their organizations.
The campaign focuses on three main topics: promoting sustainable home management, expanding the use of eco-friendly vehicles, and transitioning to solar energy generation. These initiatives aim to reduce costs for consumers and increase awareness of renewable energy use.
In the first topic, discussions included Oman's building code, presented by Engineer Sara Al-Hinai from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and a lecture on architectural sustainability by Engineer Suleiman Al-Bahri from Petroleum Development Oman. The focus was on building energy-efficient homes and using energy-saving methods and materials.
The second topic addressed renewable energy projects. Engineer Hilal Al-Hadi from Nama Supply Company discussed Nama Supply’s strategy, while Engineer Abdullah Al-Kalbani from the Green Universe Foundation highlighted medium and large renewable energy projects and green hydrogen initiatives. Falah Al-Siyabi from Nafath Renewable Energy explained solar energy systems for homes and farms.
The third topic explored electric vehicles. Engineer Abdullah Al-Busaidi from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology outlined the roadmap for electric vehicles in Oman, discussing fuel consumption and maintenance savings.
Zainab al Lawati from APSR explained the regulations and incentives for electric vehicle charging.
Engineer Zahir al Dhawy from the Electric Vehicles Club delved into the technology and safety of electric vehicles.
The campaign will continue with workshops and meetings in various governorates, involving representatives from relevant government bodies, private sector companies, and local volunteer teams.
The goal is to educate the community on sustainable home management, the benefits of eco-friendly vehicles, regulatory frameworks for electric vehicles, and the advantages of solar energy projects for both individuals and institutions.
This national campaign represents a crucial step in Oman’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future, reflecting a collective effort to embrace clean energy and achieve long-term environmental and economic benefits.
