MUSCAT: The Oman squash team are training in Kuwait for the forthcoming assignments including the West Asian Championship which will take place in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq at the end of October.
The camp will begin on Sunday and will run until Friday. The squad comprised Salim al Maqbali, Waleed al Neri, Mohammed al Battashi and Mohammed al Tamimi.
The camp aims to enhance technical and physical readiness of the players ahead of the main events. It also acts as an opportunity for the players to interact with top-seeded players from the Kuwaiti national team and the Kuwaiti clubs. The camp will include various matches and training sessions which is part of the cooperation between Oman Racquet Sports Committee and Kuwait Squash Federation.
Kuwait is one of the top Gulf and Arab teams. The external camp includes several training sessions focusing on technical and skill aspects. These sessions are targeted to develop the players' technical skills and experience beside preparing them for various international tournaments. The camp also includes strategic preparation, instructing players on the best ways to score more points, how to read opponents' movements and focus on their weaknesses.
Egypt's Ahmed al Khouli, the national squash team head coach, said that this camp would significantly contribute to the preparation of the national team players for upcoming events. “ The camp in Kuwait was selected after a comprehensive technical study. Players will get more experience by interacting with highly ranked Kuwaiti players. The selection of players for this camp was based on their recent local tournament results and their technical and physical levels during the previous training sessions. I hope the external camp will achieve all the set technical goals."
Waleed al Neri of Masirah Club said that this camp is an opportunity to get trained for upcoming local, regional and international events. “ Kuwait is one of the leading Arab countries in squash with a wide range of distinguished players and varying levels of skill. The external warm-up camp will boosting confidence and improve technical skills for upcoming tournaments. The joint technical and physical training sessions with Kuwait national team players and coaches will provide a great experience for us ahead of the coming assignments."
