A conference discussed the rising trend of kidney diseases and their treatment in the Wilayat of Al Kamil W’al Wafi on Thursday.

The conference aims to enhance health awareness among members of the community and provide the necessary guidance for the prevention of kidney diseases and their complications.

Nasser al Hashemi, acting Director-General of Health Services in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, inaugurated the conference.

The participants discussed the importance of reducing the spread of the disease and preventive measures.

The awareness exhibition included models and publications created by nurses, aimed at raising health awareness among visitors and providing basic information about kidney diseases and how to prevent them.

The conference concluded with a series of valuable lectures presented by several doctors and specialists including Khadeja al Alawi.

Amal bint Said al Alawiyah, a specialist in nursing nephrology, spoke about dealing with Hemodialysis Central Venous Catheters (CVC). “CVCs are commonly used for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Proper care and management of a CVC are crucial to prevent complications such as infections, clotting, and malfunction,” she said.

Dr Ahmed Emadeldein, a nephrologist, said, “The kidneys play a crucial role in the body’s homeostasis and can be affected by various systemic diseases. When systemic diseases impact the kidneys, they can lead to significant health complications. Understanding the interplay between these diseases and kidney function is essential for comprehensive patient care,’ said Emadeldein.

Dr Mohammed El Hosainy discussed emergency nephrology. “Emergency nephrology involves the urgent and acute care of patients with kidney-related conditions. It requires rapid diagnosis and management to prevent severe complications or death. This field covers a range of acute and chronic kidney issues,” he said.

Dr Mohamed Newegy, consultant in internal medicine & nephrology, talked about Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). “CKD is a condition characterised by a gradual loss of kidney function over time. The kidneys are vital organs that filter waste and excess fluids from the blood, he said.

The conference emphasised the importance of joining forces and exchanging expertise in confronting health challenges, calling for continued work to spread health awareness and enhance the prevention of kidney disease in the community.
