Visitors to the Khareef Dhofar Season have yet another reason to rejoice as a unique event showcasing the strong relations between Omani and Turkish cultures of archery and sessions of archery lessons are set to enthuse visitors.
The Directorate-General of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate is organising an event with support from the Turkish Yunus Emre Institute and Omani Al Bayan Global Business.
This event is part of the Yunus Emre Institute's efforts to establish a cultural centre in Muscat, aiming to enhance cultural ties between the Sultanate of Oman and Turkiye. Visitors to Salalah can learn about traditional Turkish archery from August 1 to 14.
"Khareef is a significant social and natural event in Oman, currently taking place in Salalah, a unique destination. We aim to provide a cultural experience that adds value to the charm of Salalah and the Khareef Dhofar Season," organisers told the Observer.
The traditional Turkish archery course, also known as the Kemankeş Project, will be held from August 1 to 14 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment. The course will be inaugurated by Prof Muhammed Hekimoglu, the Ambassador of Turkiye to the Sultanate of Oman, and Omani officials. The course will run from 9 am to 12 pm with promotional hours from 1 pm to 2.30 pm.
The traditional Turkish archery course, featuring a delegation from Turkiye and specialised trainers, aims to promote art, culture, science and education between the two countries. It will provide hands-on training in traditional archery techniques, raise awareness of ancient sports and facilitate the global dissemination of traditional archery.
"These collaborative activities will strengthen connections between Omani and Turkish cultures through sports and tradition, introducing a novel and engaging activity to the Khareef Dhofar Season's programmes," he further said.
