MUSCAT: SalamAir, Oman’s budget airline, celebrated successful July and introduced the new CEO at its headquarters in Muscat Hills on Tuesday.

Currently flying to 39 international destinations and bringing passengers from 4 regional destinations to Salalah, it also revealed its ambitious growth plans at a media gathering.

The low-cost carrier of Oman added two new destinations to India to the existing 8 destinations in the south Asian country, Mumbai and Bangalore.

There will be four flights a week to Mumbai starting from September 2, and from September 6, flights to Bengaluru will run twice a week.

Introductory one-way fares start at RO 19 for Mumbai and RO 33 for Bengaluru on the “Light Fare,” including a 7-kg hand luggage allowance. Passengers can customise their travel experience with meals, extra baggage and travel insurance.

This expansion is part of SalamAir’s strategy to offer low fares consistently and provide travellers with more choices.

Our “Light Fare” allows customers to stretch their travel budget by paying only for the needed services, ensuring significant savings while discovering new destinations.

Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the event, Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir, said, “The Indian subcontinent is a key region for us, and we are committed to strengthening our connections and providing affordable travel options.

“We are proud of our expansion to Mumbai and Bengaluru, alongside the recently launched routes to Delhi, Chennai, Islamabad and Lahore. This growth aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and supports our strategic goals.

“Additionally, in support of the khareef season, we have enhanced connectivity to Suhar, Fujairah, Baghdad and Bahrain, resulting in a 9-per cent increase in capacity to Salalah compared to the same period in 2023.”

He added that right now the airlines has 13 planes and by next year two more will be added.

There are also plans to increase the frequency to the destinations.

In July this year, the airline achieved a 24-per cent increase in operational capacity compared to June and with these additions, SalamAir now serves eight destinations in India, including Delhi, Calicut, Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur and Hyderabad.

The expansion plan has led to a 14-per cent increase in operations in India and a 29-per cent increase in Pakistan compared to previous periods.

Recently, new seasonal destinations connecting Suhar, Fujairah, Baghdad and Bahrain to Salalah and direct flights to Baku, Almaty, Tirana, and Trabzon were introduced.
