Low pressure likely to affect Oman this week

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority’s National Multi Hazards Early Warning Center has announced that a low pressure weather condition is expected from July 30 to August 2.


The latest forecasts and analyses from the National Multi Hazards Early Warning Center Hazards indicate that the weather in the Sultanate of Oman will be affected by an extension of a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, starting from the evening of Tuesday, July 30, until Friday, August 2, 2024.


According to the weather forecast, it is expected that clouds will be advected over most of the governorates, with chances of isolated rain of varying intensity, occasionally thundershowers, leading to the flow of wadis and causing flash floods.


Experts at the Centre are monitoring the developments of the weather condition and have urged public to follow the issued bulletins and reports.


Meanwhile Shinas, Fahud and Qarn Alam touched 48 degrees Celsius on Sunday.


According to the general weather forecast, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected along the coast of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle and chance of isolated rain. Clear skies over rest of the governorates with medium and high clouds advection .


There is chance of dust rising over desert and open areas. as well as chance of low-level clouds patches along parts of the coastal areas of Arabian sea.


Along the coastal areas of Oman Sea winds are expected to be easterly to northeasterly light to moderate becoming variable light at night, while over rest of governorates it will be westerly to southwesterly changing to northwesterly and along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea and adjoining areas winds will be westerly to southwesterly moderate to fresh.


Sea is expected to be rough along the Arabian Sea coasts with maximum wave height of 4.0 meters, slight to moderate along western parts of Musandam Governorate with maximum wave height of 1.5 meters and slight along Oman Sea coastal areas with maximum wave height of 1.25 meters .
