Muscat: Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), issued on Sunday a Decision No. 579/2024 restricting the permissible concentration of Methyl N-Methylanthranilate (MNM) in cosmetics and personal care products.

According to CPA, the circulation of cosmetics and personal care products containing an impermissible concentration of MNM is banned.

The decision limits MNM levels, banning it completely in sunscreen products, and only up to 0.1% in non-rinse cosmetics and personal care products, while at a maximum concentration of 0.2% in rinse-off products.

Violators of this regulation will face severe penalties, with an initial fine of up to RO1,000 Omani, which will be doubled in the event of repetition.

Additionally, ongoing violations will incur daily fines of up to RO50, capped at a maximum of RO2,000.

The decision will be published in the official gazette and will come into effect the day after publication.

Meanwhile, this move comes as part of the Authority's broader efforts to ensure consumer safety, urging them to stay informed and vigilant about products they use, and adhering to the latest safety standards.
