Muscat: The 'Sports Spark' event has kicked off at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). The event is organised by OCEC and Muscat Governorate, with strategic support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) to promote fitness and healthy lifestyle.
The event will run from July 25 to August 24 at OCEC halls and will include a variety of initiatives, sports events, competitions and special days throughout the month.
A preview was held to announce the launch of the event, which was attended by Said al Shanfari, OCEC CEO; Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality; and Saud bin Badr Ambusaidi, Assistant Director-General for Sports Activities at the MoCSY.
OCEC aims to create an indoor sports event for people to escape the summer heat. The event provides a unique opportunity to meet leading players and coaches, promotes wellness, improves fitness and reduces stress.
The event's sports range from football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, and more than 10 different sports activities. The event provides professional trainers to guide participants in each sport. In addition, the event includes a daily morning summer camp for children aged 6-14 years old, which runs until midnight each day, and activities are available to participants upon registration on the Sports Spark website.
Al Humaidi said, "We are happy to see this beautiful event in the summer of Muscat. The most important thing is the presence of all these sports under one roof in a cool place that has all the amenities, including restaurants and entertainment venues. Attention is also paid to an important aspect, which is the health and safety aspect."
Al Shanfari said, "We are pleased to host such an event at the OCEC. The sports event is fully in line with our mission to promote a healthy and active lifestyle in a safe environment that provides a variety of indoor sports and physical activity options, which enhances community participation.
Many of these activities are also available for free, including the fitness corner and jogging track. I look forward to seeing everyone explore our facilities and register on our website to book an opportunity to engage in physical activity and sports."
Ambusaidi said, "The Sports Spark is a very wonderful event to spread the culture of sports and physical activity. The beauty of the event is that it takes place during the summer in a closed and air-conditioned place for all age groups of men and women."
