Paris: Oman’s athletes and swimmers will arrive at Olympic Village in Paris on Thursday to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will begin on Friday and will run until August 11.
The national shooting team arrived on Wednesday for training. The administrative team headed by Ali bin Salim al Busaifi, Oman’s Chef de Mission, completed all the necessary arrangements at the Olympic Village.
Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and head of Oman's delegation to 2024 Paris Olympic Games, affirmed that this participation continues the legacy of previous Olympic involvements that began since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. He highlighted the significance of this involvement in showcasing the country's development and prosperity in sports. He urged the athletes to represent Oman honourably and achieve best results.
Al Zubair congratulated all who will have the honour of representing Oman at Paris Olympics, including sprinters Ali al Balushi and Mazoon al Alawi, shooter Said al Khatri, and swimmer Issa al Adawi (aquatics). He praised the significant efforts made by the athletes and their coaching teams and acknowledged the continuous and diligent follow-up by the Chairman of the Sports associations involved in all the preparatory and qualifying programmes
The Chief of OOC pointed out that the Olympic Games are among the most essential sporting events where athletes aspire to participate and achieve the best records and personal milestones. He stated that these games provide an ideal environment to interact with the world's top athletes and compete in the best facilities based on international standards.
Al Zubair thanked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), led by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al Said, for its support. He hoped this will contribute to elevating Oman's prowess in sports and raise the flag of Oman high in international arenas.
Al Zubair also thanked His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his generous patronage and continuous support for the sports and youth sectors in Oman. Al Kishry arrives in Paris
Taha bin Suleiman al Kishry, Secretary-General of OOC and member of the official delegation of Oman at Paris Olympics, arrived in Paris on Tuesday. He reviewed the final preparations. He said that the administrative delegation will do their best to complete all preparations for the arrival of the athletes, technical and administrative staff. He commented on the significant efforts and continuous cooperation from the Omani Ambassador to France and the members of the Omani Embassy to ensure effective participation in the Olympics. He expressed his gratitude for their roles and their constant communication with the sports delegation during their stay in France for the Olympics.
Al Kishry said the official opening ceremony of the Olympics which will take place on Friday at the Seine River in Paris will feature attendance of several Omani officials including Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of the MoCSY for Sports and Youth; Ahmed bin Mohammed al Oraimi, Oman’s Ambassador to France; Shaikh Khalid Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of OOC and head of the Omani delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympics; HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Vice Chairman of OOC; and other officials.
The Secretary-General of OOC delivered his best wishes to all the athletes and representatives of the national teams to achieve best results .
Ali bin Salim al Busafi, Oman’s Chef de Mission, praised the significant cooperation from the organisers of the Paris Olympics in completing all bookings and requirements well in advance of the arrival of the Omani delegation.
Al Busafi appreciated the commitment of the national team representatives in providing all necessary data and information to complete various procedures related to accommodation, transport, and participation in the official opening ceremony. He urged all the national team members to follow procedures in place to ensure their safety within the Olympic Village. Al Busafi held several meetings on Wednesday with the organisers from various departments to finalise all matters related to securing and receiving the national team representatives and ensuring their smooth entry into the Olympic Village.
Al Khatri gears up
Shooter Said al Khatri, who makes his Olympics debut, will compete in the Men’s Trap shooting event at the Chateauroux Shooting Center on July 29 and July 30.
Swimmer Issa al Adawi, who will participate in his second consecutive Olympics after competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will compete in the 100-meter freestyle event on July 30 at the Paris Aquatics Center. Sprinter Mazoon al Alawi, participating in her third Olympics after competing in the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will take part in the 100-meter race event on August 2 at Stade de France. Sprinter Ali al Balushi will make his Olympic debut on August 3 in the same event at the same venue.
