Salalah: The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), in partnership with the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), has launched a regional forum under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, today.

The forum, themed "The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Planning and Monitoring the Implementation of National Visions in Human Rights-related Fields," will take place from July 24 to 25, 2024.

This important occasion is devoted to augmenting the function of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) in human rights promotion by means of planned strategy and vigilant oversight of national human rights visions. Its goals are to address the obstacles that NHRIs in Arab nations confront, create a forum for the sharing of best practices and experiences, and develop all-encompassing suggestions to increase these organisations' effectiveness in promoting human rights.

Prominent attendees include delegates from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), officials from international and regional human rights organisations, human rights experts, academics, and researchers, as well as representatives from NHRIs around the Arab world.

The forum's agenda includes a number of in-depth discussion sessions that centre on the strategic roles that NHRI plays in human rights advocacy, their crucial role in supervising the execution of national human rights strategies, the difficulties they face, and best practices to improve their operational capacities.

NHRIs are independent national organisations dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights within their domains. They serve an essential role in monitoring human rights situations, advising governments on topical matters, investigating allegations of human rights breaches, and raising public awareness about human rights.

For NHRI in the Arab world, this meeting offers a great chance to exchange ideas, talk about practical challenges, and create tactical suggestions to improve their advocacy work for human rights. The outcomes of this forum are expected to significantly advance the advancement of human rights in Arab countries by fortifying NHRI's strategic planning and monitoring skills.
